JI HANEUL (24), a writer who uses her trauma and anxiety as her fuel to write a story. After a decade of living a long night, she finally healed. And what she found next was emptiness. Seems there’s nothing she can write anymore. Even living feels like it has no meaning.

She has suffered from death anxiety since 14 after she saw her friend die because of a rare disease. She is afraid of death that can come to her anytime. She stopped dreaming, stopped growing, stopped living, afraid of what is to come. She was a bright little girl who turned into a quiet girl, secretly terrified day by day.

1. EXT. AIRPORT - DAY

JI HANEUL goes to Jeju to stay for a month.

JI HANEUL (V.O.)

After a decade of anxiety, I thought when I finally healed, I would become happy and live a life like before the anxiety came. But it’s not. Emptiness is the first thing I felt after healing. Life suddenly felt like it had no meaning. The degree, money, career—feels like there’s nothing precious. So, here I am. A flight from Seoul to Jeju, to find myself, the lost me, the undiscovered me. To fill the room that was once only filled with fear. To fill the room with something more beautiful and precious.

2. EXT. JEJU - DAY

JI HANEUL goes to villages and takes photos there. The houses, the trees, the scenery. She also goes to a restaurant.

HANEUL

I'll have this set of black pork, please.

WAITER

Okay, one set of black pork. Please wait a moment.

After finishing eating, Haneul takes a walk to a beach near the restaurant and spends time alone there until the sun sets.

NEXT DAY...

3. INT. HOTEL - DAY

While JI HANEUL is still asleep in her hotel room, the door is knocked, waking her up.

HANEUL

Wait a minute...

She opens the door. The person who knocked is YOON GARAM (28), Haneul's friend since childhood. While Haneul will stay for a month, Garam will only stay for 5 days because he has a job that can't be remote.

GARAM

What time is it? We’ll be late, okay? Now prepare.

Garam then walks out to go to his room after asking Haneul to prepare for their first schedule. Haneul closes her door and goes to shower.

4. EXT. ROAD - DAY

With the rental car, they go to a Go Kart racing place.

GARAM

So, the loser will buy lunch. Deal?

HANEUL

Deal!

5. EXT. GO KART PLACE - DAY

HANEUL wins the bet.

HANEUL

Yeayyy... I win!

GARAM

No. We need to do it again.

HANEUL

Hi, loser. I'll eat the most expensive one. Be nervous.

GARAM

It's not fair. My kart started up late. So, let's do it again.

HANEUL

Nope. Luck is not an exception. I'm hungry. Let's eat.

Haneul goes first, and Garam just follows her.

6. EXT. BEACH - DAY

They go to a beach and eat raw fish in a famous restaurant nearby. After hours, the sun slowly sets. HANEUL and GARAM sit by the ocean.

GARAM

Haneul...

HANEUL

What?

GARAM

What will you do for one month here?

HANEUL

Hmm... hiking, go to museums, cafes, eat, just going places.

GARAM

(nods)

You don't have to be happy every time, you know that, right?

Haneul nods.

GARAM

It's okay to feel nothing, to be bored, to be sad, to be scared. You need to give other feelings than happiness permission to be felt. Give them also the permission to be in your day.

HANEUL

I know it. I'm still learning. It's not easy though. I thought I would be happy right away. I didn't even imagine that emptiness would come.

GARAM

Maybe it's because all of you, your body, mind, soul, want to rest after a decade of fighting all your traumas and anxiety. You've always been on edge all this time, so let yourself rest first. Take your time to recover. And after that, slowly do what you want. Follow your heart. Go anywhere. Live.

DAYS LATER...

Garam has already gone back to Seoul. Haneul changes her place to stay at an Airbnb.

7. INT. AIRBNB - NIGHT

HANEUL is preparing for tomorrow's schedule. She plans to go hiking. The clothes, shoes, camera, water, snacks, bag, and other needed stuff. After packing all, she lays down on her bed, staring at the ceiling.

HANEUL

Hi tomorrow, please be nice.

She sets the alarm and falls asleep.

8. EXT. MOUNTAIN SUMMIT - DAY

After hours of hiking, she finally reaches the top. She stabilizes her breath while looking at the scenery.

HANEUL

Hi! Thank you for being nice. It's really beautiful.

A man's voice is heard from the back.

???

Ji Haneul?

Haneul turns back.

HANEUL

(startled)

Park Ji-Ho? Hi?

They stare at each other, with PARK JI-HO (28) smiling at Haneul. They sit somewhere and start a conversation.

JI-HO

Been a while, right?

Haneul nods.

JI-HO

So, how are you now? Have a boyfriend?

HANEUL

I'm okay now. No boyfriend. You?

JI-HO

I'm okay too. No girlfriend. I never thought I would meet you here. We could have come together though.

Haneul smiles. She knows what Ji-Ho means. Two years ago, they planned to go places together, and Jeju-do, this hiking place was one of many that had been listed. Unfortunately, they broke up after one year in a relationship, leaving the plan unfulfilled.

JI-HO

Till when are you in Jeju?

HANEUL

Till the 25th this month.

JI-HO

Have places to go?

HANEUL

Yes.

JI-HO

If you don't mind, can you include me too?

Haneul stares at Ji-Ho, who from the start has been looking at her.

HANEUL (V.O.)

Do you know, people say that healing is not just about not feeling sad, angry, or scared anymore, but also allowing yourself to be happy again. To feel joy again. To plan your life again. To love again.

Haneul starts to include Ji-Ho again in her days, in her plans. They go to museums, cafes, caves, parks. The love that once stopped because Haneul thought she couldn't give back the love Ji-Ho gave is slowly starting again. The love that was never broken chooses them again.

The room is no longer empty. Haneul fills it with parks, beaches, Jeju-do, food, and Ji-Ho. And now all her writings are about those beautiful things.
