It's been a year since SEO YEWON (24) graduated and moved back to her hometown while searching for a job. She's the youngest child, a maknae, with one brother and one sister.

Her brother was also unemployed, having taken a break from college a few years ago, and he seemed to have no intention of finishing it. Her sister got married after graduating and had a baby shortly after. Now her sister's family lived under the same roof.

While waiting for a job, Yewon helps with chores and sometimes babysits her nephew.

Her parents are always nagging her about finding work. In this household, only her father and her brother-in-law have an income. Yewon understands the situation but it wasn't her idea to move back. She could've stayed in Seoul, working part-time to support herself. But for some reason, her family insisted she return home until she finds a "real" job.

Yewon desperately wants to move out. She's tired of the nagging, being compared to neighbor's kids, and being underestimated. All her feelings have been piling up.

1. INT. HOUSE - MORNING

Yewon wakes up late. As she walks toward the bathroom to shower, the nagging begins again. Her mother is in the kitchen, cooking. Her father is watching TV.

YEWON'S MOTHER

It's already 9. You should've woken up earlier and helped with the chores. Cooking, too.

YEWON

Sorry. I slept late.

YEWON'S FATHER

You don't even have a job. What were you doing? Scrolling through your phone all night?

Last night, Yewon worked on her comic, something she truly loves. She's published a few, but they haven't gained much attention. Her readers still hover around 300. She's never told anyone about this passion. She knows her parents wouldn't approve. They'd tell her to stop and to focus on getting a real job.

YEWON

Sorry, I'll do the rest of the chores.

From the next room, her nephew starts crying.

YEWON'S MOTHER

Go check on the baby first.

YEWON

Where's eonni?

YEWON'S MOTHER

She went out to meet a friend who just got back from Italy. Hurry, he's crying!

Yewon walks off to take care of her nephew.

2. INT. HOUSE - NIGHT

After finishing all the chores, Yewon goes to her room and starts drawing. In the living room, her nephew starts crying.

YEWON'S MOTHER

Yewon, come out.

Yewon leaves her room and walks over to her mother.

YEWON

Why?

YEWON'S MOTHER

Make me a formula for the baby.

YEWON

Eonni is still not home?

YEWON'S MOTHER

No. She said she’ll be late.

YEWON

What about her husband?

YEWON'S MOTHER

Her friend is also your brother-in-law's friend, so they're going home together.

YEWON

Did they forget they have a baby?

Yewon walks to the kitchen, makes the formula, and hands it to her mother. As she walks back to her room, her father stops her.

YEWON'S FATHER

(slightly angry)

Is that really the right way to say something?

YEWON

What?

YEWON'S FATHER

Do you really have to talk like that about your sister?

YEWON

Okay, I'm sorry.

Yewon turns and walks away to her room.

YEWON'S FATHER

(angry, low tone)

Seo Yewon!

Yewon stops and looks at him.

YEWON'S FATHER

You're a grown-up, aren't you? Your mother just asked you to make some formula. She didn't even ask you to put him to sleep.

YEWON

And I already made it.

Yewon's mother carries her grandson to his room.

YEWON'S FATHER

(tone gradually rising)

Are you planning to live like this forever? You graduated from one of the top universities in Korea. But look at you now. You don't even seem like someone with a degree. Look at Harin — she graduated from a lower-ranked university than you, but she already has a job. And Hyunwoo—

YEWON

(interrupting, voice rising slightly)

Stop. Do you think I'm unemployed because I want to be? I apply to companies every single day. I'm constantly looking for a job, but luck just hasn't been on my side yet. What do you want me to do?

YEWON'S FATHER

Then help your mother. Is making a formula really that hard?

YEWON

(getting emotional)

I do help with the chores. You think this is just about formula? How many times have they left the baby to hang out with friends? Once a month? No — it's two or three times a week.

Tears start to form. She can't hold it in anymore.

YEWON (CONT'D)

You never get mad at Oppa for waking up late. You never nag Eonni for not working because she got married. So what about me? Should I be a man? Should I get pregnant?

(SLAP)

Her father slaps her. She freezes. Her gaze turns cold.

YEWON

(cold, low tone)

Do you think I went to university because I wanted to? You're the ones who chose my major. Did you ever ask me what I actually wanted? Do you even care about me?

YEWON'S FATHER

(shouting)

Seo Yewon!

YEWON

(cold tone)

Am I wrong? Do you know how much medicine I have to take every day just to recover from all the trauma you and Mom put me through? For the last ten years, I haven't even known what a normal life feels like. I've been struggling inside, but all you ever see is the version of me that functions. Do you think I was happy to be born? Are you even happy being parents? Or grandparents?

Her father stands still, shocked by his youngest daughter's words. Yewon walks to her room and starts packing her belongings. That night, she decides to leave the house before anyone wakes up.

3. EXT. BUS TERMINAL - EARLY MORNING

With the little money she has, Yewon takes the first bus to Seoul. She rents a small apartment, just enough for herself. Her mother sends her several texts. She leaves them unread and blocks all her family's numbers. She needs time for herself.

TWO MONTHS LATER

Her job applications still haven't led to anything. Doing part-time jobs is the only way she can survive.

4. INT. YEWON'S APARTMENT - NIGHT

After finishing her last part-time shift, Yewon comes home and takes a shower, letting the heaviness of the day wash away. She lies on her bed, staring up at the ceiling. She scrolls through her webtoon. Her heart sinks a little when she sees the viewer count hasn't gone up. She looks slightly disappointed.

YEWON

(chuckles bitterly)

Dreams? It's even hard just to make a living. Guess dreams are only for the rich.

Yewon puts her phone down.

YEWON (CONT'D)

Should I just give up?

She closes her eyes, takes a deep breath, and slowly falls asleep.

5. INT. APARTMENT - DAY

Yewon has just woken up. Since it's her day off, she decides to go out for a walk before continuing work on her webtoon, something she can't give up, no matter how many times she's considered it.

She checks her phone before heading to wash up. Opens the webtoon platform. Goes to the dashboard analytics.

YEWON

(eyes widen, shocked)

What?! Why are there so many—

She can't finish the sentence. She checks what she's seeing again.

YEWON

What's going on? Why does my webtoon have so many views?

Her webtoon has exploded. Over 58,000 new views. 17,000 new subscribers. She types her webtoon title into social media and finds out it's trending among an idol fanbase. A famous K-pop idol mentioned her webtoon and recommended it to their fans.

YEWON

(still in shock, tapping her cheeks)

Woah... am I dreaming?

Her morning plans are completely forgotten, for a very good reason. She sits on her bed, scrolling through the comments. A smile spreads across her face and stays there all day.

TWO WEEKS LATER...

6. INT. CAFE - DAY

Yewon, still working her part-time job at a cafe, receives an email notification. She opens it. It's from her webtoon platform, offering her the chance to make her webtoon part of their original program.

For the first time, she truly feels happiness. She's grateful she kept doing what she loves, despite all the reasons she thought she should give up. Her dream is finally coming true. She accepts the offer.

Yewon quits all her part-time jobs and starts her career as a professional webtoon creator.

MONTHS LATER...

7. EXT. HAN RIVER - NIGHT

Yewon and CHOI JIHOON (28) have a small picnic by the Han River to celebrate Yewon's webtoon reaching 200,000 subscribers.

JIHOON

Cheers to 200K subscribers and many more to come!

They clink their beer cans together. A simple spread of chicken, beer, and a cake sits between them.

YEWON

Cheers!

They smile and take a sip.

JIHOON

(places his hands on his belly, bows slightly with a mock-serious tone)

Seo Yewon, as your number one fan, I sincerely congratulate you on your achievement.

YEWON

(giggling, mimics his gesture)

Thank you sincerely for always supporting me all this time.

They laugh and talk late into the night, sharing many stories. Later in the night, Jihoon brings up something Yewon doesn't want to talk about.

JIHOON

Have you talked to your parents?

YEWON

No.

JIHOON

When will you? You have a job now. They won't nag you anymore.

YEWON

I know. But... my heart's still not ready. I send them money every month, I think that's enough to show them I'm doing okay.

JIHOON

(teasing tone)

You really don't understand parent's heart.

YEWON

(teasing back)

Yes, sir.

JIHOON

But seriously... they want to know how you're doing. They want to see you.

Yewon falls silent.

JIHOON (CONT'D)

Did you know your parents text me every week?
"Is Yewon okay?"
"Is Yewon eating well?"
"Is there something Yewon is going through now?"
And so on. They're worried about you.

YEWON

The things I said that night... were too harsh. I still can't face them.

JIHOON

Do you feel sorry?

YEWON

(nods)

A lot.

JIHOON

Humans tend to complicate problems, I think. We could fix things simply, but we end up searching for complicated solutions. If you're sorry, the first step is to apologize. Then talk to them. Ease the tension.

He looks at Yewon.

JIHOON

Yewon.

Yewon stares back.

JIHOON (CONT'D)

It's okay to feel angry. Give yourself permission for that anger, and also, forgive yourself for what happened that night.

8. INT. APARTMENT - NIGHT

Jihoon's words linger in Yewon's mind on her way home, and even now, as she lies in bed. Yewon picks up her phone, stares at her family's contact list for a few minutes, then finally unblocks their numbers.

She records a voice message and sends it to her parents.

YEWON (VOICE NOTE)

Hi, it's me. Mom, Dad... I'm sorry for what happened that night. My situation, the situation back then was too hard for me to handle. Sorry for all the things I said, I didn't mean them, really. Sorry for leaving without saying anything and blocking all communication. I needed time to be alone. I'm back in Seoul now. I worked a few part-time jobs, and now I'm working as a webtoon creator. I still can't come home because of work deadlines, but I'll visit for Mom's birthday. I'm okay. Once again, I'm sorry. I guess that's all I can say for now. I'll call you later. Love you, Mom and Dad.

FADE OUT.
